Everything You Need To Know About Making Resin Salad Bowls

Resin salad bowls are everywhere right now. And we love the look of them. What we don’t love is the price tag. So why not make it yourself? The Norglass Liquid Glass range makes creating your very own uniquely beautiful resin bowls easy. Here’s how you can do it yourself:

What you need:

  • Norglass Liquid Glass Epoxy Resin
  • Resin colourant
  • Silicon bowl mould
  • Plastic painters pot (to mix the base resin)
  • Paper cups (for to mix colourant into the clear resin)
  • Wooden popsicle (for stirring)
  • Silicon mat (to avoid resin drips transferring to your surface)
  • Drop sheet to cover surfaces

How you do it:

Step 1:

Mix 2 parts Norglass Liquid Glass Epoxy Resin Base to 1 part Norglass Liquid Glass Epoxy Resin Hardener. Make sure you stir this for a good five minutes to reduce bubbles. We allowed our resin to sit for another 10 minutes before pouring.

Important Note: The Norglass Liquid Glass Epoxy Resin mixture has a working time on 20-30 minutes. Be sure to pour the mixture within this window of time. The resin will get warm to touch as you edge closer to the 30min mark. This is a signal to work fast or risk losing your mixture.

Step 2:

Mix in the resin colourant. Stir until completely combined.

Step 3:

Pour the Liquid Glass mixture and resin colourant mixture into the bowl mould. This is where you can get creative and have fun. Allow to dry for 24 hours before removing the mould.

Important Note: To achieve the marbling effect, pour small amount of each mixture, one after another, until you are happy with the effect. To add to this, run a popsicle stick (or other small wooden stirring tool) through the mixture to disperse the colour more.

It’s best to pour your resin on a flat surface that can sit for 24 hours. If you’re unable to, move it to the surface it will remain in for the dry time before filling the mould. This will prevent any resin from spilling through the process.

Step 4:

Once the resin is dry, remove your resin bowl from the mould. Marvel at your handiwork as each piece will truly be unique and not replicated again.
