How To Transform An Old Timber Cubby House With Paint
If you’re sick of watching your kid’s cubby house slowly fall apart in the backyard then we’ve got the perfect project for you. It’s so much easier than you think to transform your cubby with paint and create a refreshed haven for your little ones. Save yourself (and the environment) from a tip run and follow the steps below to transform your kid’s cubby house from trash to treasure.
What you need:
How you do it:
Step 1:
Remove any damaged/unwanted timber from the cubby house. Be sure to check for any rotted or water damaged timber as this will need to be removed or replaced before you apply the paint.
Step 2:
Fill in any holes on the cubby with Polyfilla Professional Exterior Timber Filler. Next, caulk along the roof line and any big cracks in the roof with Maverick Gap Sealant. Allow to dry.
Step 3:
Once the filler and caulk are dry, lightly sand the filled and caulked areas with 120 grit sandpaper to smooth the surface before sanding all surfaces of the cubby house.
Step 4:
Apply 1 coat of Dulux 1Step Prep primer with a mini roller. Use a paint brush to coat any hard-to-reach surfaces. Allow to dry.
Step 5:
Apply 2 coats of Dulux Weathershield Low Sheen in your chosen colour to the interior and exterior walls and floors of the cubby. Allow to dry between coats.
Bonus Step:
For a more personalised touch, we chose to paint a flower pattern on the floor of the cubby house.
Step 6:
Apply 2 coats of Dulux Weathershield Semi-Gloss in your chosen colour to the roof and trims. Allow to dry between coats.
Step 7:
Apply 2 coats of Dulux Weathershield Semi-Gloss in your chosen colour to the cubby door. Allow to dry between coats.
Step 8:
Style the cubby house and present the refreshed cubby to your little ones.
