How To Makeover A Bathroom With Paint

It’s the most used room in the house, but rarely is a bathroom at the top of your DIY project list. Mould, water damage and hard to reach places can all get in the way of achieving the bathroom of your dreams… but that doesn’t mean you should let them. With the right paint products and the right advice, making over your bathroom is not only achievable, but easy. Follow the steps below to transform your bathroom with paint:

Step 1: Remove Mould

Using Selleys Rapid Mould Killer, spray the affected areas in the bathroom. Leave the spray for 2-3 minutes before scrubbing the walls and ceiling until the mould is removed.

Step 2: Surface Prep

Scrape any flaking paint from the walls and ceiling, then lightly sand with 120 grit sandpaper. Fill any holes with Selleys Spakfilla Rapid and allow to dry.

Step 3: Sand

Once the Selleys Spakfilla Rapid is dry, sand with 120 grit sandpaper until smooth. Using a pole sander, lightly sand the ceiling and walls. Wipe away any remaining dust with a cloth.

Step 4: Mask

With masking tape, tape the top of the tiles and any areas not being painted in the bathroom. Keep the edges of the tape fanned out to catch potential paint splatter.

Step 5: Prime

Apply 1 coat of Dulux Precision Stain & Mould Blocker Primer to the ceiling and walls. Allow to dry.

Step 6: Paint The Ceiling

Apply 2 coats of Dulux Ceiling Flat +PLUS Kitchen & Bathroom to the ceiling. Allow to dry for at least 2 hours before applying the second coat.

Step 7: Paint The Walls

Apply 2 coats of Dulux Wash & Wear +PLUS Kitchen & Bathroom Low Sheen in your chosen topcoat colour. We used Dulux Vintage Beige. As with the ceiling, allow least 2 hours drying time before applying the second coat.

Step 8: Paint The Trims

Apply 2 coats of Dulux Wash & Wear Semi-Gloss in your chosen colour to all other trims. We used Dulux Natural White.

Step 9: Reveal

Remove the masking tape to reveal your fabulous new bathroom.

Important Note - Bathrooms that have no ventilation will be prone to mould over time. Refer to product label for full conditions.
