The Dos and Don’ts of Colour Drenching

Colour drenching is all about going bold by detonating a single colour hue explosion across an entire room, hallway or house. And when we say explosion, we mean it. EVERYTHING gets painted. The walls, ceiling, trim, furniture and even the electrical sockets. In recent years, this style technique has become a popular trend amongst many an interior designer, but don’t go grabbing the paint brushes just yet.

Here’s our guide to mastering this colourful trend:

DO choose a colour that reflects your personality and complements your space. This trend is all about expressing yourself to the fullest and most colourful extent. It’s your space, your way.

DON’T be afraid to layer different shades of the same hue and play around with different paint finishes. This will add depth and interest to your space. And keep in mind, colour drenching goes beyond just paint. Your bedding, home décor and flooring all play a role in bringing colour drenching to life.

DO consider how you want the space to feel. If you want your room to feel more elegant and intimate, then you should opt for darker hues like navy blue and forest green. On the other hand, lighter hues like peach and baby blue will make your space feel larger (this is particularly effective in rooms with high ceilings).

DON’T forget to test your colours before you commit. Colour drenching is not an exact science, but that doesn’t mean throwing out the fundamentals of painting. Make some A3 colour boards so you can see how your chosen colour interacts with the space and the light in the room. Like with any paint, natural light can change how your chosen colour looks so you must consider this before committing.

DO be bold and ambitious. Trust your vision and be confident you can make your colour drenching dream a reality.
