How To Make A Trendy Check Tray For Mother’s Day

Give Mum a homemade gift she’ll want to keep and use over and over again. This trendy check tray is the perfect way to level up Mum’s breakfast in bed. But what’s more, it’ll be a piece of home décor you want to have laying around. Follow the steps below to create your own.

Here’s what you need:

• Wooden Serving Tray (we used the Southwest Acacia Tray)
• Dulux 1Step Prep Oil Based Primer
• Paint brushes
• Sample pot of a base colour of your choice (we used Fuzzy Peach)
• Sample pot of a secondary colour of your choice (we used Elegant Bloom)
• Painters tape
• Cabot's Benchtop Clear

Here’s how you do it:

Method:

Step 1:

Apply 1 coat of Dulux 1Step Prep Oil Based Primer to the tray.

Step 2:

Apply 2 coats of your base colour to the tray. Allow to dry.

Step 3:

Tape a grid pattern onto the tray. Use the width of the tape as a guide for spacing.

Step 4:

Paint 1-2 coats of your secondary colour to the taped tray. Allow to dry.

Step 5:

Once dry, remove tape. Retape your grid in the opposite squares to your first coat.

Step 6:

Paint 1-2 coats of your secondary colour to complete the check pattern on the tray. Allow to dry.

Step 7:

Remove tape and seal with Cabot's Benchtop Clear to make food safe.
